After a final breakfast at the VSC including their famous porridge we left our luggage at the service counter. There had been a bit of an issue as before we even booked our flights I had checked that we could leave our luggage there while we were away at Camino. Marius, the front concierge, said they had made a mistake saying we could leave our luggage there even though I had the email chain to prove it and said we would have to pay 40 GBP to store it – don’t have a choice and not too bad really so we headed off with our backpacks to find a chemist as the GP had finally sent through the email prescription.
I thought that Liverpool Street station would probably have a chemist and we could fill the script there before catching the train to Stansted Mountfitchet. We found one and they were very helpful and the script was filled with no issues.
Train to Stansted Mountfitchet ran smoothly and we passed so much water – there has been a lot of rain. Everything was incredibly green and there were thousands of canal boats visible along the waterways – so incredible.

It was raining when we got off the train but it was pretty light so we walked down to the Linden Stansted Hotel – such an amazing place. We got our room which is just lovely and I spent the afternoon catching up on the blog and Steve talked with a guy in the bar called Richard who is ex-Royal Marine Commando who told a lot of scary stories about his past and current roles.
Dinner was just incredible. I had the fish and chips and what a treat. The homemade tartare and the freshly cooked cod with peas was just delicious – especially accompanied by a gin based drink with rhubarb and raspberry gin, rhubarb syrup, prosecco, soda and fresh raspberries. Boy, it had a kick!
Steve chose the Cumberland sausages that were served with the most gorgeous red cabbage cooked with spices and apple and orange juice. Honestly the best meal we have had in the UK so far.
Back to the room by 6.30pm and it won’t be long until we are in bed as we didn’t get much sleep last night and we are both exhausted.
Need to leave here by 9.30am tomorrow and breakfast starts at 7am.
